Summary

The vegetable sector is an important source of employment and income for the local people, especially women, in Moc Chau and Van Ho districts, Son La province, Vietnam. The region’s favorable climate and soil conditions are suitable for growing subtropical and temperate vegetables.

The main limitation to scaling the new safe vegetable value chains that are being developed under the ACIAR and GREAT projects is the lack of a functional cool chain from Moc Chau to Hanoi, to deliver the vegetables to market in good condition.

The project builds on established partnerships to show how farmers in Son La can now use innovative CoolBot technology to create low-cost cool chains that deliver certified safe-to-eat vegetables to Hanoi retail markets in top condition, removing a major roadblock to scaling and increasing farm incomes 2 to 10-fold.
