Webinar recording: Spent mushroom compost as casing soil ... with Mohammad Mirzadeh (40 minutes)

Mohammad has been active in the mushroom industry since 1990. For many years he was the production manager of a large farm in Iran, producing 120 tonnes of mushrooms each week.

In Iran, availability of peat is limited to local supply. Purchase of peat from Europe is not only prohibitively expensive but also, at times, impossible.

It was at that farm that Mohammed helped to develop a method of recycling and desalinating SMC for use as casing soil. During his time there, the farm scaled up this technology, eventually recycling 5,000 cubic meters of SMC annually into casing soil for their own use.

Mohammed has been working with the Australian mushroom industry for the last ten years, and is now a head grower at Bulla mushrooms in Victoria.

The webinar is brought to you thanks to the Marsh Lawson Mushroom Research Centre project (MU16004), which is funded through the mushroom levy with funds from the Australian government.
