Pasture dieback trials in Queensland

Trial site visits, hosted by Geoff Maynard and Chris Roffey, were held at Jambin and Gaeta in January 2022, giving visitors the opportunity to view and discuss the results of the pasture dieback trials one year after establishment. The guest speakers enlightened over 30 participants at each site on the results of management approaches and different varieties in dieback affected pastures. And everyone gained a lot from hearing from Dennis Clair, Lester MacLean, Tom Marland, Michael St Henry, Ian Winter, and Harvey and Brett Campbell who shared their pasture dieback stories with the groups.

Gordon Rogers, Managing Director of AHR, and Naomi Diplock, Lead Researcher for AHR pasture dieback trials, highlighted the results so far with a walkthrough of the management and variety trials while explaining the best bets for the management of pasture dieback.

Will Wilson, AgForce Cattle Board President, explained how we got to where we are in regard to the research and people’s experience with dieback, followed by the Cattle Board update. To view a video report by Will Wilson, please click HERE.

Caroline Hauxwell, Associate professor at QUT, described the role of the mealybug in dieback and its seasonal biology, how to look for and monitor them and information on the wasps and natural enemies of mealybug.
