Horticultural Consultant
About the role
We are looking for an experienced horticultural consultant with demonstrated experience working with horticultural growers and industry stakeholders. The successful applicant will work on research and extension projects in the horticulture industry. Tasks include managing farm demonstration trials, project management and reporting, developing extension materials, and planning online and on-farm events. It will involve working collaboratively with clients, industry stakeholders and other AHR staff.
Location: Sydney (remote also considered, particularly S/SE Victoria and SE Queensland)
Key tasks include:
Project management: Manage and implement project work plans, activities, budgets and timelines across key extension projects
Field trials: Plan and conduct field demonstration and research trials on commercial farms
Communication activities: Develop and translate scientific information into practical information for growers including high quality factsheets, magazine articles, case studies and industry guides
Extension events: Organise, coordinate and present at industry events, field days and online events
Stakeholder engagement: Establish and maintain good working relationships with growers, agricultural industry representatives, funding bodies, collaborating researchers and other AHR staff
Skills and experience required:
Tertiary qualifications in horticultural/agricultural science
Minimum 4 years’ experience working in the Australian agricultural or horticultural industries
Experience designing and conducting field trials on commercial farms, collecting and analysing data, and translating results to industry
Experience managing large, multi-year national projects to budget and within set timeframes
Deep understanding of horticultural growing practices including challenges
Ability to work independently, stay self-motivated, and take initiative
Proven track record of working and communicating effectively with growers and other industry stakeholders
Must be an Australian citizen or have Australian resident status at the time of application.
