Risk analysis for mushroom compost
Project partner
The University of Sydney, Hort Innovation
Duration
2022-2025
Summary
The raw materials used to produce Australian mushroom compost are primarily agricultural by-products obtained from a wide range of suppliers. These materials may contain low levels of agrichemical residues which can pose a risk to the mushroom industry.
The project will:
Evaluate the risks posed by introduced agrichemicals in the mushroom production chain.
Determine which of these residues, if any, persist through the composting process.
Provide growers and composters with the information required to manage potential risks associated with agrichemical residues inadvertently entering the mushroom production process.
Identify key agrichemicals that persist through composting and pose a potential risk, allowing these residues to be monitored in a targeted manner.
