Research Scientist
Sophia Thach is an early career research scientist working on nationally significant extension projects in soil health and sustainable production for the vegetable and potato industries, alongside international agricultural development projects. She holds a Bachelor of Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security (Distinction) from Western Sydney University.
Sophia has experience across domestic and international agriculture, including volunteering with the UN World Food Programme in Cambodia on research into COVID-19 impacts on food security. She is currently serving on the Central Committee of the Researchers in Agriculture for International Development (RAID) Network and was a NSW Crawford Fund Scholar in 2024.
With a background in communications and development, she brings strong cross-cultural, communication, and engagement skills to her work.
Sophia is passionate about translating research into practical outcomes for growers and supporting resilient, equitable food systems.
