Duration
2025-2028
Summary
Australian avocado exports doubled between 2022/23 and 2023/24, making it more important than ever to ensure premium fruit quality is maintained as the industry grows its presence in international markets.
AHR is leading this project that benchmarks Australian avocado quality on retail shelves in Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur, in collaboration with Avocados Australia and funded by Hort Innovation. Fruit quality is monitored weekly over two years, with results linked to supply chain data to identify causes of damage and inform better export practices.
Growers and exporters receive real-time feedback through an interactive dashboard, supporting continuous improvement and more informed export strategies. Competitor fruit from key supplying countries (including Mexico, Peru, Chile, Kenya and the USA) is also benchmarked, giving the Australian industry valuable insight into how its fruit stacks up on quality, price and shelf performance in two of Asia's leading markets.
Results are being shared with the broader industry through the Avocados Best Practice Resource Hub to support continual improvement in quality management.
