AHR - Environmental and agronomic optimisation of strawberries in Northern NSW

This workstream presents an opportunity to develop and test tools to manage crop irrigation so that containers receive the correct amount of water. This can be combined with more sophisticated fertiliser management techniques and training to help growers apply the correct amount of fertiliser, especially nitrogen.

AHR will work with local growers and the supply chain to pilot improved irrigation, nutrition, and environmental monitoring, showcasing the benefits to the wider industry.

Lead partner: Applied Horticultural Research

Projects in this workstream

  • This project involves collaborating with agronomists and growers to implement on-farm research trials and demonstrations focused on improving irrigation and nutrition practices to reduce nitrate leaching

  • Develop and deliver targeted training for berry growers, agronomists, and supply chain members on improved nutrition, irrigation, and nitrate modelling systems to enhance yield, reduce costs, and minimise environmental impacts.
